Chris started in music playing bass guitar with his older brothers in a family band. He then played guitar
for Eldorado’s High School Jazz Band and won an award for his improvisational skills upon graduation. This motivated
him to go on and earn two bachelor degrees in music from The University of New Mexico. First, in Theory & Composition
and second in Music Education. Recently, Chris has completed his Master’s Degree in Music also from UNM. He composed
a Suite of Variations based on an Alaskan folk song for his Thesis.
Chris has written over 200 original songs and has them all recorded on his own solo CDs. He won three awards
from NMMIC songwriting contest in 1991, 1994, and 1997 for the classical category. Chris has produced and performed
on CD’s for numerous other musicians as well. He also performs quite frequently at coffee houses, for weddings,
and private parties as a one-man-band. Chris has performed for over 30 musicals with ACLOA, MTS, Alb. Little Theatre
and for UNM. Chris has been teaching guitar/bass lessons in Albuquerque since 1981. He teaches all styles of guitar,
theory, note reading, improvisation and songwriting. Chris taught Band and Exploratory Music at Roosevelt Middle
School for three years in the early 1990’s. He taught at Bosque School in Albuquerque on the West Side and also
recently taught a continuing education class on the Beatles with UNM's Continuing Education Program. Chris currently
teaches private lessons at Washburn Piano.
